The AT Symbol Poster - is 5 years old!
The AT Poster is comprised of 444 different
Appalachian Trail symbols, in chronological order, that I photographed
on my 2008 thru-hike; 18x24. I photographed all of the images and
designed it myself. It fits the standard 18x24 frame that you can get
anywhere. This year the poster turns five years old!
You can order the poster directly from me @ ETSY.com

Seven Degrees of Sarah Jones
By reading this blog you are one degree closer to Kevin Bacon. My little
brother is a great contender at the game "Seven degrees of Kevin Bacon" and he knows more obscure facts about more pop culture topics than anyone I know, but technically I win. Once, while skiing in Utah, Kevin Bacon skied right next to me. I was standing on top of a mountain and had taken a short break. He skied right next to me, stopped and then continued down the trail. I could barely type my brother's number in my phone fast enough. "Dude, you're one degree from Kevin Bacon! He just skied next to me." I said breathlessly.
"Are you sure?"
"Yup, his wife skied right behind him."
I am one degree from Kevin Bacon. For the win.

So, this one time...
I am a story teller. Ask anyone who knows me. Random shit happens to me...All the time. Ask anyone knows me. I am a talker. My Dad is a talker. My Grandpa is a talker. They are both storytellers and weavers of tales. Ask anyone that knows them.
When I was a little girl, my mom bought me a typewriter. I hacked away at those stiff keys and wrote make believe tales for years. I have kept three journals in my life. Two of which were taken and read by people who had no right to do so. I have my BA in Journalism and a minor in Creative Writing from Virginia Tech. Since I left college, my storytelling has turned to a more descriptive, spoken style. I blame the drinking. And the love to make people laugh out loud. My friends keep telling me that I need to start writing some of these down. I went on to get my MFA in Photography and moved on to telling stories through the lens.
The hardest part of starting a new project is starting. I've been meaning to do this for years. It seems there is no better time than now. One of my favorite writing professors at Virginia Tech, Sam Riley, was an inspiration to me on so many levels. He really challenged my writing and was the push I needed to take it further. A few years ago, he contacted me to give him one of my stories for a blog he was working on. We caught up and I was honored to be remembered by such an amazing man. As a professor, I can only hope to be that inspirational to my students.
Sam Riley passed away this Winter. If that's not a reason to get writing, I don't know what is.
Here is goes...
